Nocturne
The Nocturne installation is designed for unlit urban areas where individual passersby may be present. It is a conceptual model that addresses various questions regarding sustainable urban lighting, considering both humans and insects.
The installation visualizes the nocturnal life of insects in the city, replicating their movements around light sources through a technical solution. This poetic imagery reconnects people with the natural landscape, a subject traditionally celebrated in art. The experience of nature is conveyed through an immersive, multimedia environment, which serves as a central element of the installation.
Beyond its artistic impact, the installation aims to stimulate critical reflections on urban space. Firstly, it highlights the issue of light pollution in cities and the artificial lighting that attracts insects into illuminated urban areas, drawing them away from their natural habitats and ultimately leading to their death. The same behavioral mechanisms that cause butterflies to circle streetlights also drive insects into the city at night. How can modern cities mitigate this harm?
